This Math-Focused STEAMvestigation starts with a read-aloud called "Pop Goes the Polygon." Explore 2D and 3D shapes as well as shapes and positive/negative space. Use new knowledge to take paper from 2 dimensions to 3 dimensions with scissors and geometry. STEAMvestigations are stand-alone activities that help kids ask questions, dream up ideas, draw concepts, design, and test prototype ideas before redesigning a final model.
The guides for this activity include:
• Kids STEAMvestigation Handout
• Educator's Background Notes
• Design Logbook Pages
• Literacy Connection "Pop Goes the Polygon"
You supply recycled materials, 1 colored paper and 1 white paper of equal size, scissors, ruler, colored paper, stickers or stencils, glue stick
Half-class or full-class materials kits are available for this STEAMvestigation. To introduce the full STEAMstart Unit including 5 subject-focused STEAMvestigations and a culminating Unit Challenge, order the STEAMstart BioDome Bees for camps, clubs, and after school programs.
