"Archimedes and the Spiral" uses the engineering design cycle to help students investigate spirals, ramps, and simple machines then challenges kids to design and test gumball runs (marble runs). Start with trace and cut ramp prototypes, then work toward one-of-a-kind models using data. The goal is to engineer the SLOWEST gumball ramp possible. Use gravity and obstacles to keep that marble from going too fast.
